When this pulp becomes infected or inflamed due to deep tooth decay, trauma, repeated dental procedures, or cracks and fractures, it can cause severe pain, sensitivity, and swelling.

The goal of endodontic treatment is to save the natural tooth by carefully removing the infected or damaged pulp. The dentist cleans and shapes the root canals, disinfects the area to eliminate bacteria, and then fills and seals the canals to prevent reinfection. After treatment, the tooth is usually restored with a crown or filling to protect it and restore full function.

Without timely endodontic care, the infection can spread to surrounding tissues, leading to abscesses and bone loss, often necessitating extraction. However, many cases of pulp infection can be prevented with regular dental check-ups and early intervention.
